hen I first set out to write about the Batlle of Hastings, I
didn't really appreciate how many people were interested in this period. I was also
surprised by the letters on subjects in which I, personally, have little knowledge or
expertise. The Bayeux Tapestry has created a lot of mail from embroidery experts.
Geneaolgy has also swamped my inbox. The effect of the Norman Conquest on the English
language is another hot topic that I may attempt in the future. One area where I might be
able to help, is for those who wish to be involved in military re-enactments from this
period. If you require further information on this pastime, you might like to click the
contact button below. I have included telephone numbers of the societies and further
information. I am not sure what qualities you need to join, but being mad must be one of
them. Remember that even re-enactments can be dangerous. To give you some idea of what to
expect, the buttons below have a few photographs of the 1999 re-enactment of the Battle of
Stamford Bridge and Hastings on Senlac Field. Next year, I am led to believe, there is
going to be a massive Milennium re-enactment of the battle. I assume it will be in October
2000. As soon as I know the exact date - I will update this page. |
