Aelfric

( c 955-1010 ). Known as Grammaticus - he was a monk at Winchester and abbot of Cerne and Eynsham. He was considered to be the finest Anglo Saxon writer of the time. He is famous for his Catholic Homilies and the Lives of the Saints. He also wrote a book on Latin grammar.
