Aethelfreda

Known as lady of the Mercian's. Daughter of Alfred the Great, she was married to an ealdorman named Aethelred. On his death she took control of Mercia, and along with her brother Edward the Elder, recaptured a large part of Danelaw south of the Humber. She died around 918.
