Aiden St

A monk originally from Ireland. Like many monks from Ireland his destination was the monastery on Iona. Under the direction of king Oswald he was made bishop of Lindisfarne where he founded a monastery in 635. He helped to establish the Celtic church in Northumbria. Following Oswald's death in 642 his work continued under Oswin. Oswin was murdered in 651. St Aiden died a few days later. The cause is not known.
