King of England (r 1040 - 1042 ) (c 1019 - 1042 ). The legitimate son of Canute ( Cnut ). He was unable to take up the throne of England on the death of his father in 1035 due to the threat being posed from Norway. He was also the king of Denmark from 1028. His absence allowed Harold I to become king. On Harold's death in 1040, Harthacnut regained his crown.
