Hundred

Anglo Saxon division of land similar to the Danish version or wapentakes. The exact reason for the hundred is not known but it was probably easier to administer a shire that was split into a hundred units or hides. Once a month a hundred court used to sit and pass justice and raise taxes. Most people in England have heard of the Chiltern Hundreds.
