Monarchy
Power vested in a single person, usually a king and a queen. In the case of England, the first monarch of the whole of England as apposed to regional kings of the heptarchy was Athelstan crowned in 925 A.D. To many people, Alfred the Great, although only king of Wessex, his power and leadership extended through all of England and therefore may also have been given the honorary title of king of England.
