Pelagius

Controversial monk ( c 360 - 420 ). His claim to fame was the statement that man could attain salvation by his own will. This came to be known as Pelagianism. This was resoundingly attacked by the likes of St Augustine and the Roman church. It became known as the Pelagian Heresies.
